[...] Them Swiss misters from Ish Records seem to get it right with each release and Escape, the debut from Elephant Beach, a collabo between Chicago rapper Thaione Davis and Zurich beatmaker J Sayne, is no exception. Comparisons will probably be made to RJD2 and Blueprint’s Soul Position outfit, but really they’ve got their own unique thing going on. Most importantly Davis’s vocals are easy on the ear (apart from when he sings, ouch!) and he takes the opportunity of some delightfully non-regulation beats, to spin a few good yarns and lay down a couple of party starters. If there’s any justice in the world this will at least cop some attention because of the Chicago factor but I suspect that open-minded quality gear like this will get trampled underfoot as everyone goes chasing for the next cap wearing buffoon with a bunch of bogus MySpace friends.
